- born into a large family of vampires and dhampirs, he lived with his family in seclusion in some townhouse
	- his parents had an open relationship (vampire contractual marriage etc.) and had children with other people - lucis is one of these children (half-human on father's side)
	- they were all very close though, because his parents didn't want to raise their children in a distant home + they still did love each other

- an incident (Discriminatory) caused them to part - he went to an orphanage
	- there, he got separated from his siblings
- got adopted into some assassin raising program 
	- very abusive - **perfected his skills there**
	- still has scars, **insecure about them** because reminder of much worse times + he thinks they look fugly
	- made a few sort-of friends, fell out of contact with them 
- he burned down the place after a particularly bad evening
	- many members fled. some did not. there are still surviving members: some grateful, some vengeful
- now using his skills to find his family - practically his only purpose in life rn
- did some freelance work --> made a name for himself as one of the best snipers in the Hypodermis

- adopted the overkill "villain" personality because he was influenced by successful antagonists in media with similar backstories + they're cool an confident and capable!! 
	- tries to be cool and mysterious and nonchalant. so so so bad at it. incredibly chalant
	- like sort of a confidence booster type deal
	- also how villains typically have a sad backstory - i hate the world rah rah rah!! lucis had a similar arc - processing it through acting

he has looked for his family everywhere, but knowing them, he figured they would be in the Hypodermis as well. Because of the reach that HALCYON missions have, he thought he would be able to find some leads on his family. he was accepted into [[eris]] for his insane noscope skills + big reputation in Hypodermis

✦ plays up villain persona as a sort of coping mechanism/form of escapism where he can actually relate to someone for once (fictional villains) because **although he is very independent, he actually still wants people he can identify with**
- like there's seriously no one like him out there because he burned down the place where he was raised where some people MIGHT'VE understood, and also there are like zero vampires out there ever
- also because vampires were hella discriminated against in World History, they're commonly depicted as antagonists in stories and villainized, so lucis plays into that part as well in order to keep the "vampire" side of him alive because that's all he has of his family
